There's a review floating around online from someone who said the restrooms felt like a 20-minute walk away and it ruined their whole day. That surprised me, because the entrance I walked in through had restrooms right there, practically at the parking lot. So either there's more than one story here, or something's getting lost in translation.
Here's what's actually going on
Siesta Key Beach is wide. Really wide. From the entrance where the restrooms and pavilion sit, it's roughly 100 meters of open sand before you reach the water. That's not a complaint about the restrooms being far from the entrance — it's just how much beach there is between the entrance and the Gulf. If you're set up right near the entrance, the restroom is close. If you've walked all the way down to the water's edge to swim, of course it's going to feel like a hike to get back — you covered real distance getting there in the first place.
My guess is that's what happened with that review: someone parked their stuff or was swimming way out toward the water, needed a restroom, and measured the walk from there instead of from a reasonable beach setup spot. It's a wide beach — that's part of what makes it good for swimming and not overcrowded. It's not a design flaw in the restrooms.
What I can confirm so far
At the entrance I used, restrooms and showers were right there, no real walk involved. What I haven't verified yet is whether every entrance to Siesta Key Beach has the same setup, or if some entrances are further from facilities than others. I'm planning another trip out there and I'll walk each entrance point specifically to check this properly — this page will get updated with exact details once I have them, rather than me guessing at something I haven't confirmed myself.
