Brohard Paw Park, Venice
About 20 minutes south of Siesta Key, Brohard Paw Park is the only beach in Sarasota County where dogs are allowed, and the only spot where they're allowed off-leash in the Gulf itself. It's a real setup, not an afterthought: a fenced play yard with separate areas for large and small dogs, leading through a gate directly onto a stretch of beach. Dog showers, waste bags, benches, and water fountains for both dogs and humans are all there.
What to bring
There's no water source directly on the dog beach itself, so bring your own water for your dog along with the usual chairs and towels. Toys help — the beach is bigger than most people expect, and a ball or frisbee gets used fast once your dog realizes the whole stretch is fair game.
A couple of other options if Venice is too far
A few parks closer to Sarasota allow leashed dogs, even if they're not beach access — worth knowing about if a beach day isn't realistic but a walk is. None of them let dogs off-leash or into the water the way Brohard does, so if swimming matters, Brohard is really the one destination worth the drive.
